Micro-dermabrasion

Micro-dermabrasion is a technique usually performed in beauty clinics by beauty therapists. It is relatively safe because it is a very superficial treatment using machines that are of low power and therefore are unlikely to cause damage if used correctly.
There are different ways that the micro-dermabrasion is performed but the general way is that particles, usually crystals – are blasted at the skin using air through a hand piece, and then a vacuum sucks the crystals and dead skin cells back up away from the skin.

By protecting the eyes, and then slowly passing the micro-dermabrasion tip over the skin surface, the outer layers are thinned or removed.
The power of the micro-dermabrasion is quite low and so the bombarding of the crystals tends to remove only the very outer layers and there is also an effect from the crystals hitting the skin, causing a little bit of inflammation. This inflammation can help tighten the skin and also gives a nice red glow, increasing the blood flow to the skin surface itself.

By bombarding the skin surface and by sucking up the debris, the additional advantage of microdermabrasion (and medical microdermabrasion on low power) is that black heads and white heads get sucked out during the process and are therefore also get treated. This makes microdermabrasion very good for spotty, greasy or acne prone skin.
